Charles Knapp has been a professional stained glass artist since l974. Born in Toronto, his family later moved to the United States where he was raised. After graduating from university in Michigan, where he majored in Biology, Charles returned to Canada. When deciding where to live, “Go west young man” sprang to mind, so he moved to Vancouver. A school friend came to visit him there and made a clear glass leaded planter as a Christmas present. In the spring, when it was no longer raining every day on his deck, Charles set up a work bench and decided to try to make one too. He was immediately hooked. Glass and the process of construction was challenging and satisfying. |
| In l976 Charles moved to Huntsville and set up a shop in his home on Main Street. Since then, his skill as a designer and a craftsman has steadily grown. Whenever he was asked if he could do a specific project, Charles always said yes and then rose to the challenge of actually doing it. Can you make a window of my Bull Terrier sniffing a tiger lily? Of course! Can you match my wallpaper? Sure! Can you make a ten foot long pool table lamp? No problem! There is no limit to what we can imagine, therefore there is no limit to what can be made. |
